Mailing Lists

TigerTronics uses two mailing lists to communicate with members: a students list and a mentors list. Your email address should automatically be added to the proper list, but if you don't think it has been, contact the TigerTronics webmaster to have your email added.

Why are there two mailing lists, and who is in each?
There are two mailing lists so that mail that concerns only students and mail that concerns only mentors can be kept seperate. TigerTronics members (as well as some 8th grade Tween TigerTronics Lego League members who intend to join TigerTronics in 9th grade) are in the students list, while TigerTronics mentors are in the mentors list. Please note that the mentors list may be less complete than the students list for various reasons. You can always send mail to both lists by sending to one list and CCing the other in the same email. However, doing this could hold your message for moderation (see below).

Why am I receiving alerts that my posts to a list are being held for moderation?
Initially, you can only send mail to lists you are a member of without the mail being held for moderation. This means, for example, that if a students (who is only a member of the students list) tries to send to the mentors list (which they are not a member or) or vice versa, they will get an email alerting them that their message is being held for moderation and that it must be approved.

As messages are approved by the moderator, the sender of the message will be added to an "apporoved" list so that future messages they send, even if it is to a list they are not a member of, will not be held for moderation. Basically, once your message has been approved, messages you send should no longer be held for moderation.

Note that messages sent to a list you are a member of should never be held for moderation.

Can I remove myself from a mailing list?
Yes. Instructions for removing yourself from the mailing list are sent to you in an email you received when you were added to the list. You can also request to be removed by contacing the webmaster. Current TigerTronics members should not remove themselves for the list. When removing yourself or asking to be removed, please contact the webmaster and let them know why you wish to be removed.

When I reply to an email from the mailing list, who does it go to?
When you reply to an email received from the mailing list, the reply is sent to the origional sender, not the mailing list. This means others on the list will not see your reply. If you wish to reply to the mailing list instead of only the origional author (perhaps because the reply concerns everyone on the list), replace the To: field in the reply email with the mailing list (preferred), or CC the mailing list in your reply.

I'm a TigerTronics student or mentor and I'm not getting any emails from either mailing list.
The mailing lists are not extremely active, so just because you do not get any emails from the mailing list for a long period of time does not necessarily mean there is a problem. However, if you know others are getting emails from the mailing list(s) and you are not, you should contact TigerTronics' webmaster to alert him that you are not getting emails from the mailing list. Be sure to tell the webmaster what email address you want mailing lists emails sent to when contacting them.

I don't think others are getting emails I'm sending to the mailing list.
If you suspect a TigerTronics member is not getting emails you send to one of TigerTronics' mailing lists, but other members are getting these emails, you should first contact the member you is not getting mailing list emails and verify that they are indeed not getting emails sent to the mailing list. Some members do not check their email regularly or do not respond to mailing list emails, and so it may appear that they are not getting emails from the mailing list when they actually are. Once you have confirmed that they really are not getting emails from the mailing list, alert TigerTronics' webmaster to the problem, and be sure to include the email address of the person who is not getting mailing list emails. You must tell the webmaster what email address is having problems; simply giving them the name of the person who is not getting mailing list emails is not enough, since it is quite possible the webmaster does not know the correct email address of the person if you do not tell them what it is.
